Very many studies and researches haves shown the appalling number of maternal deaths that occur each year in villages in India due to lack of access to trained medical personnel’s. ARTH, an NGO based in Udaipur tries to look for options as solutions and demonstrates a model where in trained nurses are capable of providing a wide range of maternal- neonatal services and managing complications in the absence of a doctor. The film Maya Baya ro Aspatal (women and child hospital – a name given by the villagers themselves to the hospital) documents this model and its successful replication across other tribal regions of Rajasthan.
